Final Fantasy 2 was initially only released in Japan, just like Final Fantasy 3. In North America people also recieved a version of Final Fantasy 2, but that was in fact what is now known as Final Fantasy IV. Square decided to not release Final Fantasy 2 and 3 in the United States/ PAL countries, but decided to release Final Fantasy IV anyway, as it was a great succes. Trying to avoid confusion and missing numbers they simply renamed IV to II, and VI to III, thus making it even more confusing!

Final Fantasy Origins

Console: Playstation

14/03/2003
Final Fantasy Origins is a bundle, containing both games from the first Final Fantasy releases, Final Fantasy 1 and Final Fantasy 2. They re-coded it for the biggest part, but the graphics maintained from a previous release on the Wonderswan. The games futher stayed intact.

Dawn of Souls

Console: GBA
03/12/2004
29/07/2004
29/11/2004
Just like with Final Fantasy 1, Final Fantasy 2 was also re-released in the Dawn of Souls on the gameboy. They' ve made slight tweaks to the colors on the gameboy, as well as changing some battle settings. You can' t turn off "ineffective hits" like before, and Stats decrease and HP growth by recieving damage has been removed. As interesting as each of this is, the only good change about this game is another addition, which comes in the form of a bonus game. After beating the Empereror you can play with all your deceased characters again, in the Soul of Rebirth mode, facing each powerfull opponent again in death.

Anniversary Re-make

Console: PSP
08/02/2008
07/06/2007
24/07/2007
In 2007-2008 Square Enix celebrates the Anniversary of the Final Fantasy franchise, and they decided to release yet another remake of Final Fantasy 2 ( and 1), this time howevernot bundled. They created it for the Playstation Portable, and included all the bonusses from Dawn of Souls. They have added new graphical effects, which look even better then Dawn of Souls, and they' ve added another 2 bonus caves, besides the bonusses I've mentioned before, to this version. In these dungeons you can find new equipment, specific for each character (even temporarly), new monsters and a new boss, from which you can get the 2 new magic tomes in the game, Revive and Destroy.
