"Hope has enjoyed a markedly uneventful youth on humankin's haven on Cocoon. His life is turned upside down at the hands of the Sanctum's Purge."
The son of Bartholomew and Nora Estheim, Hope's father works for the Sanctum. After encountering a fal'Cie, Hope and his mother fall victim to the Sanctum Purge and are exiled from Cocoon. The train leading them into exile is stopped by Team Nora and Hope's mother decides to fight alongside Snow. She ends up perishing as Snow is unable to save her. Hope watches from a distance as his mother falls to her death.
Hope harbors an intense hatred for Snow, blaming him for his mother's death. He grows close to Vanille, however, due to her kindness and warmth. After becoming an l'Cie Hope gains the ability to summon the Eidolin Alexander into battle.
